About RBC Race for the Kids
2019 is the fifth year RBC Race for the Kids has been held in Sydney. Our goal is to raise over $130,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney (RMHCS) and attract 1,000 runners. Funds raised will go towards helping RMHC Sydney provide a home away from home for seriously ill or injured children and their families. Check out rbcraceforthekids.com for more details on this global race series.
Since opening in 1991, Ronald McDonald House Randwick has provided a home away from home for 32 families a night, every night. We also provide all the facilities that you would have at home, so you can travel light.
But our House provides more than just the practical necessities of life. When families have to travel far from home to receive medical care for their sick child, finding affordable accommodation in an unfamiliar city only adds to their stress and anxiety. So when families’ lives have been turned upside down, we offer a warm, welcoming place to stay that is supportive and understanding. We try to offer a little bit of normal when life is disrupted, painful, and confusing.
The role of our caring staff and volunteers is to lighten the families’ load and to ensure that they are offered the help and support they need to be able to focus on what really matters – their family.
When Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney (RMHCS) first opened its doors in 1991, our mission was simple: provide families with a safe, nurturing 'home away from home' while children recevied treatment in Sydney. This mission has evolved and expanded to include two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, a Learning Program and our House dog Wilbur, all of which allows us to provide wider-reaching support and achieve greater impact for those who need it most.
We are committed to doing things differently to get better results, delivering vital support to seriously ill or injured children and their families with programs focused on health, education and wellbeing. Our House in Randwick operates as a 'home away from home' for families required to travel to Sydney for critical medical treatment. Our Family Rooms embedded in Sydney Children's Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital provide parents, carers and siblings with respite during long days spent by Hospital bedside.
The Learning Program delivers critical educational assistance for children with serious illnesses, helping them catch up on missed learning following lengthy absences from school by offering comprehensive assessment, therapy and tuition with qualified professionals. RMHCS is also proud to have a new (and furry!) team member and House dog, Wilbur, who continues to provide a welcome distraction for those staying in our House The power of a cuddle and a pat are very real, and Wilbur plays a vital role in better supporting our families everyday.
